David Alfred Knopf and Edwin Monserrate Marrero were married Thursday at Buenos Aires City Hall.

Jorge Eduardo Lozano, the head of the civil registry and vital statistics office, officiated.

Mr. Knopf (left), 52, is an independent consultant in San Francisco who gives management advice to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

He is the son of Alice Laine Knopf of New York and late Alfred Knopf Jr. His father was a founder and the chairman of Atheneum Publishers in New York.

The younger Mr. Knopf is also the grandson of the late Blanche Wolf Knopf and the late Alfred A. Knopf, the founders of Alfred A. Knopf Publishers in New York.

Mr. Marrero, 56, is an independent ballroom-dancing instructor who gives lessons in various locations in San Francisco. From 1983 to 1985, he was a member of the corps de ballet of Ailey II, the junior dance company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

He is the son of Asunción Ortíz of Isabela, P.R., and the late Monserrate Marrero, who lived in Hormigueros, P.R. His mother retired as a seamstress in Caguas, P.R. His father was a sales representative for the Hormigueros location of Cooperativas de Ahorros y Crédito, a credit union. Mr. Marrero is the stepson of Miguel Gonzalez.

Last April, Mr. Marrero and Mr. Knopf placed first in the professional-amateur division in the American Smooth and American Rhythm categories at the April Follies Same-Sex Dancesport Classic, a ballroom competition in Oakland, Calif.
