Last month, the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda was voted as the Most Romantic Caribbean destination in About.com's Romantic Reader's Choice Awards and next month the nation will be celebrating Romance Month with a "Go Green" theme.
June is Romance Month and during the course of the month couples will be able to take advantage of special deals on honeymoons and destinations weddings. One lucky couple will also be getting married in Antigua after winning a luxury all-expenses-paid wedding abroad.
This is the sixth Destination Wedding Promotion to be hosted by the nation and eco-friendly island weddings are being promoted throughout the month of June.
The winning couple, Jacqueline Adams and Ron Chrichlow, are originally from the United Kingdom but they now live in New York. The couple are looking forward to a wedding that will have a minimal impact on the environment and the green theme will be evident throughout their special day.
They will explore Antigua by scooter and visit Green Island where they will take a tour of the wildlife sanctuary and organic gardens. To symbolise their love and commitment to each other and the environment, the pair will plant their very own tree on the island.
The green destination wedding will take place at Nonsuch Bay Resort on 16th May, 2012 and after the ceremony the newlyweds will travel to Green Island for photographs amid the breathtaking natural landscapes.
"We are so excited about our upcoming wedding in Antigua and even more excited that we can bring awareness about the environment and how we can celebrate in Antigua & Barbuda, this little bit of paradise, without disrupting it," the couple commented.
Derede Samuel-Whitlock, the USA Director of Tourism for Antigua & Barbuda added: "Green or eco chic weddings are a growing trend as couples focus on sustainability and minimising some of the waste often associated with traditional weddings, while preserving the environment for future generations."
The two islands are a favourite for destination weddings and romantic honeymoons with their sweeping sandy beaches, turquoise ocean, coconut palm trees, and sunny blue skies.
Situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, the twin-island nation is one of the leading Caribbean destinations for couples getting married abroad and it is famous for its wide selection of beautiful pristine pink and white sand beaches which are perfect for romantic beach weddings. source.
