Some people are born with one kidney can live like normal people. However, if the two renal function could not work or function as before, therapies such as hemodialysis and kidney transplantation may be new hope for patients experiencing chronic renal dysfunction / renal failure.
Kidney function main: excretion
Kidneys are organs that have the remarkable ability, although this organ is small filter substances that have been unused (substance waste or garbage / waste) which is the rest of the body's metabolism. Every day, renal function will process about 200 quarts of blood to sift or produce approximately 2 liters of extra waste and excess fluid in the form of urine, which flows into the bladder through a channel known as the ureter. Urine will be stored in the bladder before it is released as the micturition (urination).
Intake of food as energy and for tissue repair will be screened and molecules that are not used as a toxin (poison) will be issued by the kidney. If impaired renal function, the ability to filter waste materials can be subject to all and there is accumulation in the blood which can result in various manifestations of disorders of the body.
Kidneys have a pretty unique structure, ie the blood vessels and filter unit. The screening process occurs in a small part in the kidney, called nephrons. Each kidney has about one billion nephron. In the nephron have tiny blood vessels intertwine with each other to establish the small channels, namely tubules.
In addition to the rubbish dump that is not used anymore, kidney function is a 'factory' producing three important hormones, yaitueritropoietin, renin, and active form of vitamin D (calcitriol).
